THE COURT & CAMP OF RUNJEET SINGH
PUBLISHER NAME– LONDON:HENRY COLBURN, PUBLISHER,GREAT MARLBOROUGH STREET.
This scarce first edition by William. G. Osborne presents an introductory sketch detailing the origin and rise of the Sikh state. The volume features 16 detailed engravings, including a notable depiction of Ranjit Singh on horseback.
Bound in green cloth, the spine has been professionally re-laid and decorated with elegant gold tooling, enhancing its aesthetic appeal. Some plates include runner markers, reflecting historical usage but not detracting from the overall value.
A valuable and collectible work for enthusiasts of Sikh history and early illustrated books.
William Osborne was military secretary to the Governor General, his uncle Lord Auckland. In May 1838 he was sent to Runjeet Singh’s court in Lahore to make arrangements for the later British mission there.
