The book is a red dyed Shaguran leather bound with wide gilt border on upper board showing temple pillar and re-laid spine, all edges gilt. It contains many chromolithographs, 2 black and white maps , engravings and heliogravures with text in French.
Gustave Le bon (7 May 1841 – 13 December 1931) was a French polymath whose areas of interest included anthropology, psychology, sociology, medicine, invention. In 1884, he was commissioned by the French government to travel around Asia and report on the civilizations there. He published Les Civilisations de l’Inde (1887), in which he applauded Indian architecture, art and religion.
